What is RFID?
RFID stands for Radio Frequency IDentification. It involves a relatively new application of old technology: radio waves. Small “tags” with microprocessors emit radio waves that are received by RFID readers. The tags store basic data about the things they are placed on, usually just a unique identifying number. RFID has been called a “barcode on steroids” because it allows specific items (products, containers, pallets, etc) to identify themselves without humans directly touching or scanning the item. It is pretty cool technology and we’ve used it to improve the whole shopping experience and to streamline a number of tedious processes.

How does it help shoppers?
First off, Freedom Shopping’s retail RFID solution finally enables the ideal checkout experience: the moment a shopper walks up to pay, everything is instantly scanned!

If instant checkout wasn’t enough, our solution can also lower prices. Lowering prices is a function of the store operators spending a lot less time on tasks related to processing (i.e. inventory counts, price adjustments, fully-staffed checkout, audits, etc).

Some other benefits include item-specific information to ensure product freshness, instant promotions and price changes, enhanced security and customized advertising & information.

(We told you it was cool.)

So what is the catch?
The biggest concern related to the use of RFID has been privacy. And for good reason. Because RFID technology can remotely identify objects, it offers a lot more power and in the wrong hands it could be abused. However, we have developed a number of proprietary methodologies that reside in the technologies we deploy. These ensure every consumer’s privacy is completely protected anytime you see the “Freedom-ID SECURE” seal. Look for it. Freedom Shopping (and our store partners) have no ability to nor interest in spying whatsoever. We won’t associate with anyone that does either. Our commitment to every shopper and to ourselves is that whatever you do when you leave a store is completely your business and we aim to keep it that way.

We have a full privacy policy here. We ask each of our store partners to post their specific privacy policy in the store as well. If you have any questions or feel your store is not abiding by it 100% please let us know immediately by emailing: privacy-concerns@freedomshopping.com.
